Guest Blogger: tone saravia on American Holiday Fashion

November 23, 2012

There is nothing more American than Thanksgiving and nothing more New York than than the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Covered in thick coats and warm colors, friends and families gathered together along the West Side apartments this morning for mimosas, coffee, and pastries overlooking Central Park and the parade. We were lucky to be invited to one of these special gathering. Magic occurs in the small spaces of this city, where dark colors, thick furs, modern leather cuts, and vintage style come together to embody what is the epitome of American holiday fashion.

Hope you enjoyed today's guest blogger!  For more on tone saravia see here

Talk the Talk Thursdays

November 22, 2012

Talk from me

What is your favorite restaurant in London?
London has all the major restaurants like Nobu, Zuma and Hakkasan.  While these are good my favorite is actually a small, rustic French restaurant in Pimlico called La Poule au Pot.  The food is great and the ambiance is even better - so warm and cozy!

Your hair looks so long and healthy.  What is your secret?
Aw, thanks! Trust me it wasn't always this healthy and I tend to color my hair a lot.  I actually have curly hair and used to straighten it everyday.  But nowadays I try to not touch my hair with any hot tools every other day.  This in combination with a really good shampoo and conditioner (I use Fresh products) and a bit of Argan oil on the ends has shown a huge difference.

Talk from you

"Yesterday I bundled up the little cookie and headed into Covent Garden to Dust PR's press day where the lovely ladies were showing the SS13 collections for some of my favourite brands – WildfoxRebecca Minkoff (accessories), BarbourFalke and Irregular Choice (shoes)." - STYLONYLON

"I'm so excited to see the family and have some amazing food (especially pie!) this Thursday for Thanksgiving. For this special occasion I have purposely put together this outfit. I found this shirt in my sister's closet, loved it, and just had to wear it!  The deeper colors of this floral top make it an easy transition into Fall." - The Urban Lioness

If you would like to be a blog I feature or ask me a question, please see here for what I am looking to feature and email with the subject line "Talk the Talk." Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing your "talk" in the next post.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall leaves

November 21, 2012

What better way to enjoy the auburn leaves of Fall than in a gorgeous gown and carrying an intriguingly elegant yet modern handbag? Um...many ways!  Dreamlike yes, practical no.  I was so excited about shooting my Theyskens' Theory gown and favorite handbag from M2Malletier, I didn't realize how difficult walking through leaves would be!  But I succeeded in giving you my vision and really, that is all I wanted with two pieces so distinct they deserve the fantasy.

Living a girl's dream

November 16, 2012

(Emilio de la Morena dress and belt, Rag & Bone long sleeve tee, Christian Louboutin heels, Tom Ford sunglasses)

Last week when I visited London Fashion Week designer Emilio de la Morena's design studio to get a real-life glimpse of his SS'13 collection (see post here), I also got a hold of this FW'12 dress.  A beautiful exotic digital print I can only describe as destructured flowers meets leopard.  It is so refreshing for Fall/Winter.  Emilio is known for making women feel feminine and pretty and this dress made me feel just that with the little peplum detail and flouncy skirt.  So easy to wear, I loved shooting it in a beautiful garden in London and living every little or big girl's dream.

Talk the Talk Thursdays

Talk from me
Who is your favorite designer?
I have to say Chanel.  Everything I own from Chanel I wear no matter the season or year.  The craftsmanship, design and tailoring of each ready-to-wear piece or accessory is exquisite and I know I will pass down my pieces as they are truly timeless.  I also do love Rag & Bone and can wear any of the pieces from their collections!

What camera do you use?

I use a Nikon D3100 14MP DSLR camera for my own personal photography and I work with photographer Shariq Siddiqui on most photo shoots.

Talk from you

"It's party season! The only time of year when you can wear sparkles obsessively and not be judged!" - Behold This Beauty

"I ended up carrying Charlotte Olympia's signature Pandora Perspex clutch box, with its intricate enamel and crystal spider clasp..." - Liberty London Girl

Easy Breezy

November 10, 2012

(Raquel Allegra tee, Mason skirt, AllSaints boots, Tom Ford sunglasses)

Today was warmer in London than usual.  I decided to go back to my NYC days and wear a slightly messy look: A long black jersey skirt I bought two summers ago with a ripped off the shoulder tee and chunky knee-high boots.  It's so comfortable!

A picture is worth 1,000 words.  That is the saying, right?  In order to give you more I've launched MFS on Instagram.  Want to see my favorite piece in my closet from yesterday's post?  Top right corner of first image.   Want a look into British catwalk designer Emilio de la Morena's design studio?  Middle of second image.  Want to see my daily outfits, fashion findings and inspirations?  It's all there and more!

Talk the Talk Thursdays: Introduction

November 8, 2012

(Sherry Cassin fur vest, Maje sweater, Rag & Bone jeans, Christian Louboutin shoes, Ray-Ban sunglasses)

I am introducing "Talk the Talk Thursdays" where I will answer a mouthful of questions from readers and also get to know you all better by sharing your fashion and style insights.  So in addition to sending questions you would like me to answer, let me know what you are talking about these days as relates to style, trends and fashion business.  I received so many great questions already:

Why did you decide to start a fashion blog?
I decided to start a fashion blog first off because many people encouraged me to do so for some time!  I have always had a love for fashion and with my career in the luxury goods industry and recent graduation from business school it was the perfect time to start.  I want to address a niche with my blog in exploring the world of style with luxury fashion business learnings here and there.

What luxury career experiences do you have and what do you do?
I worked for Cartier in NYC and I did Marketing/PR.  I also worked for London Fashion Week and currently am Marketing Manager for a top luxury brand.

What is your favorite piece in your wardrobe right now?
A FW '12 dress by Sally LaPointe I bought this summer in NYC at the boutique Curve.  It is a structured nude-colored with black lace overlay cocktail dress with a slight slit exposing the upper waist.  See on Twitter and Instagram!

Hope you enjoyed and now it's your turn!  Please send your questions and/or what stylish things you are talking about to with the subject line "Talk the Talk."  Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing your "talk" in the next post!

Black on black plus Valentino

November 5, 2012

(Balenciaga coat, Rag & Bone jeans, Christian Louboutin heels, Valentino bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses)

Color is all over the runways these days but I'm still partial to an all black outfit.  The weather in London changed significantly last week and its time to bring out the coats.  This is one of my favorites: leather-trimmed and double-breasted.  Styled with a pair of killer pumps and F/W '12 studded Valentino bag and I'm ready to brave the cold!

October 21, 2012

(Rodarte sweatshirt, vintage necklace, Lady Grey bracelet, Silence and Noise leggings,
Chanel Boy bag, Alexander Wang shoes)

By popular demand to reveal myself, I braved my first photo shoot today to showcase my favorite Rodarte piece, an easy sweatshirt with the signage "Radarte" (pretty cool!) Ties in nicely with my last post Rodarte collection for Starbucks.  I'm all about dressing up casual pieces with a statement necklace and rocking bag.  Perfect Sunday afternoon hangout outfit!
