Perfect wing tip eye

February 27, 2013

I’m really into the wing tip eye these days.  It’s not a new look by any means but one that has been a consistent beauty trend over time and that I have seen all over the AW13 runways. For me, the key to success to achieve the perfect wing tip eye is all in the choice of liquid eyeliner. YSL’s Shocking False Lash Effect Eyeliner is my choice!  A great guide below I found on how to use this wonderful bold felt-tip pen to achieve this look easily and with perfection time and time again.

Oscars 2013 Trend: Sparkle

February 26, 2013

Giorgio Armani silver sequin gown

Giorgio Armani overlay of white sequins and crystals gown

Elie Saab Couture sheer black gown, embellishment of beads and lace

Monique Lhuillier strapless dress

Alexander McQueen lilac organza embroidered gown

There were no fashion faux pas at this year's Oscars.  All beautiful (and trend alert: embellished) muted colored dresses (minus the stunning red Valentino on Jennifer Aniston).  With designer's vying to dress the Oscar attendees and stylists looking to get the very best from designers, it was a win-win this year with plentiful sparkle for all!

London Fashion Week AW13 Recap

February 23, 2013

I finally had the time to sit down and digest all of London Fashion Week to share with you!  My first time covering LFW officially for Mouthful of Style was such a great experience.  I have worked fashion shows and backstage many times in my career in the industry and now covering them as well as a fashion blogger adds even more to my overall experience. For one thing, I was able to see and appreciate the full production of the shows from start to finish.  When you work a show these parts can get overlooked as you are dashing around to make sure all is in place when the clock hits time. That being said, below are my favorite show looks of the week and a few pictures I snapped from backstage and the runways.  Enjoy!

Antonio Berardi

Emilio de la Morena

Tom Ford (is back on the runways!)

Model of the moment, Cara Delevingne

Backstage beauty

P.S.  I want to dedicate this post to one of my best friends on her wedding day.  Sending you the biggest kiss and a lifetime of happiness to you both!

Balthazar London Opening

February 20, 2013

Balthazar is opening in London's Covent Garden this week!  Perfect timing with the closing of yet another fabulous London Fashion Week.  I haven't been this excited about a restaurant opening since, well, I've been in London really that I decided it needed its own post.  The famous NYC eatery was one of my personal favorite Sunday brunch hangouts while I was living in NYC.  Officially a French brasserie with the best Salad Nicoise and Eggs Benedict I've ever had, make sure to check out the London version here and make a reservation now as the wait list is already filling up!

London Fashion Week: Zoe Jordan AW13

February 18, 2013

I've definitely been running around London over the past few days, but in a good way!  London Fashion Week premiered at 10am on Friday at Somerset House with Zoe Jordan sponsored by Vestiaire Collective and I got the best view from front and center first row!  Having heard of the designer but not too familiar with her work, I am now a follower and fan! The show was a mix of some of my favorite styles and trends: matchy-matchy tops and trousers, structured jackets, silk mixed with rougher fabrics and fun pops of color.  An extremely wearable collection staying consistent to Zoe's signature style she describes as "feminine swagger."  Ah, don't you even just love that description!

New York Fashion Week AW13 Recap

February 15, 2013

Living in NYC for years before moving to London, I have a very strong affinity towards the power woman look.  The AW13 fashion shows were a dream to me with so many new ways to celebrate the NY-woman.  Honestly, these are just A FEW of my favorite looks from the shows (also loving Victoria Beckham, Rag & Bone, Theyskens Theory...).

The new tiny waisted power suit.

Femininity exuding strength.

Give me that blue dress now!  And I love the barely there midriff.  So commanding.

lasgodivas by The PR Series

February 12, 2013

With only a few more days of NY Fashion Week left, I wanted to introduce a new favorite NY-based jewelry label The PR Series. Above is one of my favorite pieces from the new collection titled lasgodivas. Named after the famed Godiva chocolate these custom made earrings ooze downtown ruggedness meets uptown glamour, my all-time favorite combination in styling.  Speaking to the designer Pili, she explained her "fascination with geometric shapes and mosaics" in creating this piece.  As for me, well, I just am fascinated by The PR Series.

For more on The PR Series see here and on lasgodivas see here.

Closet clean up

February 5, 2013

So this is my closet, well, ... my dream closet.  But I did come up with a new idea on how to update my closet to someday look like this one.  It was 7:30am last week and not thinking my best, I rummaged through a pile of clothes on the floor trying to get dressed for work.  "Ah, I don't have anything to wear!" Can you relate to my moment of frustration: Too many clothes and none that you like?

I started thinking what can I do practically to solve this problem without going out and buying a new wardrobe.  I decided to choose one piece in my closet each week that I have not worn for at least 6 months and create an outfit using it.  Doesn't sound very hard right?  If you can make an outfit with the piece and comfortably wear it the entire day without second guessing it, keep it in your wardrobe otherwise toss it!  Has proven to be an easy and pain-free way to slowly clean out my closet and find the pieces I actually enjoy wearing.  I can tell you one piece is already out the door!  Let's just hope that I don't replace it anytime soon.
